Swami Brahmananda took formal monastic vows of Sannyasa, receiving the name Swami Brahmananda from his Guru, Baba Muktananda in 1982.
Swami Brahmananda’s wisdom and practice about how he has functioned (for the last 40 years), as a transparent conduit for "Shaktipat" that is coincident with the "Guru Principle" and aligned with the ancient lineage he is devoted to, is both inspirational and clarifying.
Swami Brahmananda graciously tells illuminating leelas (stories) of his time with Baba Muktananda, providing insight into the Guru devotee relationship he enjoyed with Baba Muktananda.
He also honestly illuminates how he has related to the struggles around succession after Baba Muktananda’s Mahasamdhi. He describes how he deals with the proven fact that Baba Mukatananda was sexually intimate with females who participated in "tantric practices" with Baba Mukatananda. It is strikingly obvious (in this dialog) that Swami Brahmananda is not being defensive nor dismissive nor reactive nor secretive about his life as a devotee. He is learned and clear about the wisdom of both Vedanta and Kashmir Shaivism. His wisdom and insight can be felt and received as prasad from this Lineage.
We (Nick and I) have felt this specific Shaktipat to be so, given in the many conversations and occasions wherein we have been warmly embraced in spending time with disciples of Baba Muktananda who were blessed (by Baba Muktananda) to be Teachers. Those being, Swami Shankarananda, with whom we have shared many conversations and meetings, beginning in the early 2000’s. Also, meeting with Swami Nityananda a few times and with Master Charles a few times.
Adi Da was obviously very eager to hear of our time with all of these devotees, now Teachers and transmitters, of this lineage. The reasons for why Adi Da Blessed our interactions and also sent gifts to these Teachers through us will be obvious to those who are aware of Adi Da's relationship to his lineage.
I, Julie, also have a purified, open heart relationship to this lineage, having been initiated to function as a Sannyasin in 1986. I was initiated to practice “Radically Free Renunciation” based on Adi Da’s Hridaya Shaktipat (and his right do so). The Saraswati order and lineage was thus extended and clarified (in Reality Truth, recognition responsive devotion, to Adi Da’s Realization of the “Bright”). His incarnation coincided with the Living Presence of the Shakti Itself and with Bhagavan Nityananda and Baba Muktananda in human form, as part of the Awakening Process unique to Adi Da's "Outshining and Liberating Transmission". Adi Da was Blessed, by Baba Muktananda, to Teach and Transmit.
Adi Da illuminated in more than words, the details about this lineage and his relationship to it, particularly from the mid 1980's until he took Mahasamadhi in 2008. This "link" is still alive. I look forward to speaking about the details of this Leela when appropriate to do so.
Adi Da: “Baba Muktananda was as His own Confession and Demonstration to Me clearly indicates an authentic Spiritual Master of Ascending Yoga, and His Proficiency was of a Very High, but not the Highest, degree. Therefore, beginning from the very day I first Came to Baba Muktananda, He (directly) Passed Me to Bhagavan Nityananda (Who was a Spiritual Master of Ascending Yoga Whose Proficiency was of the Highest degree).”
